Camps at Compass Arts

Camps are where the Compass Arts staff gets to kind of cut loose and assemble their most creative, offbeat offerings. These camps are crazy fun while simultaneously encouraging deep learning. They are imaginative spaces designed to thrill and inspire wonder through play-based exploration. Whether building tunnels and forts, adapting a story book for the stage or getting down deep into messy/sciencey what-happens-when-we-do-this scenarios the Compass Arts camps deliver unforgettably expansive experiences.

Compass Arts Magicarium Camp Romina RobinsonMagicarium Camp
For 5-10 year olds
Taught by Romina Robinson and Jessica Jelliffe

In this half-day camp, children ages 4-10 will explore the magic of the world we live in. Inspired by local lore and legend, as well as the mighty powers of nature, projects will open the eyes of even the most skeptical kids, prompting the question: do you believe in magic? Children will start the day with open play in thoughtfully presented stations that highlight themes and content for the day. A morning meeting will follow, including an introduction of the day's project. We will break for snack before we spend the rest of the morning engaged in making!

Compass Arts Rompatom Imagination Playhouse Theater Crafters Gina SamardgeRompatom Imagination Crafters Camp
A music and theater all in one camp for 8-14 year olds
Taught by Eric Saiet, Gina Samardge and Jessie Shaffer

This summer we are combining our popular music and theater ensemble programs, Rompatom Ensemble, Imagination Playhouse, and Theater Crafters, into one camp full of deep creative exploration! Over the course of the week, students will be immersed in the processes of rhythm, melody, singing, movement and acting along with musical and theatrical improv, theater games, skit writing, and storytelling. Led by Eric Saiet, Gina Samardge, and Jessie Shaffer, this camp will tap into each student's creative capacity, allowing them to express themselves in a safe, supportive environment while they develop their skills, explore their ideas, collaborate on group projects, and have a whole lot of fun. At the end of each week the students will share their creations with their families.

Students who play an instrument are invited to bring it to camp and perhaps incorporate it into a song, soundscape, or skit. Our process is geared toward the interests of the students while nudging them to broaden their experience and try new things, so if they are more interested in one component than another there can be flexibility in the way in which they participate. For example, if they would prefer to participate more on the musical side of things, they may be able to add sound effects or underscoring to a skit or, vice versa, if they prefer the acting and writing side, they may create a shadow play for a song that's being played. This camp is not your average music or theater camp!
