Rompatom Ensemble I for 1st-3rd grade
Taught by Gina Samardge with Justin Keller
Tuesdays, 4pm-5:30pm, February 12 to June 4 (no class 4/16)
Tech and Dress Rehearsal May 15, 16 & 17, Performances May 18 and 19
A vocal, instrumental, and creative musical ensemble, Rompatom I preps younger students for the advanced Rompatom II ensemble, introducing playing technique, rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic work, and improvisation on xylophones and drums, with some introduction to ukulele and recorder. Over the course of the semester, students build skills while learning parts of some of the material played by Rompatom II, including a wide range of traditional world music-influenced pieces, classical, rock/pop, and musical theater. Movement and dance will also be explored and possibly incorporated into some of the musical numbers. The end performance combines the two ensembles joining forces to weave together these various explorations and pieces into a magical journey of music, humor, theater, mystery, dance, and joy. There is nothing out there quite like this!
If a 90 minute class is too long for your first or second grader, we will gladly offer a discounted rate for the first hour only which will not include recorder or ukulele. Payment plans are also available. Email Gina@CompassArts.org to inquire about either of these.
