Beacon Rising Online; Vocal Technique, Ear Training and Sight Singing
Taught by Gina Samardge
Sundays, 8pm-9pm, July 5 to August 30 (every other week)
This course is geared towards Beacon Rising choir members and others who wish to spend a little focused time enhancing their foundational musical and singing skills during this summer period where we can't easily sing together. Each week students will be taken through an easy physical warm up to engage the full body in the act of singing as well as experience musical concepts like rhythm and dynamics. From there, students will learn exercises for engaging the breath and supporting their tone, as well as a variety of vocal warm ups to address technique and how it impacts timbre and intonation. The last part of the class will focus on western classical notation reading and sight-singing, using a combination of sung and signed solfege and rhythmic counting and syllables. Depending on the number of registrants, there may be a virtual choir video project that will take place over the course of this class.
